How do you stay hydrated after fillers? Our Albuquerque, NM-based team knows this is something many of our patients will be thinking about when they’re having facial fillers to reduce wrinkles or improve the definition of facial contours.

Dermal fillers are a popular cosmetic treatment that can help smooth out wrinkles and add volume to the face. While the injectables can provide significant results, it’s important to maintain proper skincare after the treatment to keep your skin moisturized and healthy.

It’s common for the skin to feel dry in and around the injected area for several days after hyaluronic acid fillers because of the anti-septic agents used to cleanse the skin. Due to the placement of the fillers, the numbing cream that is used, or a person’s natural tendency to lick their lips more after a treatment, some patients do experience dryness after lip injections as well.

Keeping your skin hydrated and in good shape will make the results of these treatments last longer. With all of this in mind, here are some ways to keep your skin moisturized after filler sessions:

Drink Plenty of Water

One of the simplest ways to keep your skin hydrated after fillers is to drink a significant amount of water. Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day can help keep your skin moisturized from the inside out.

Use a Gentle Cleanser

Regularly applying a gentle cleanser can help keep your skin moisturized and prevent irritation after fillers. Look for a cleanser that’s free of harsh chemicals and fragrances and is specifically designed for sensitive skin.

Moisturize Regularly

Staying committed to moisturizing is key to keeping your skin hydrated after fillers. Choose a moisturizer that’s rich in hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides, and apply it to your face and neck twice a day. Smear an ointment like Vaseline on your lips if you’ve had lip fillers.

Avoid Sun Exposure

Sun exposure can dry out your skin and cause further damage after fillers. Always wear a broad- spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially during peak hours.

Consider a Hydrating Mask

A hydrating mask can help give your skin an extra boost of moisture after fillers and help facilitate the recovery process. Look for a mask that’s specifically designed for sensitive skin and contains hydrating ingredients.
