Injections to Prevent Muscles from Moving and Forming Wrinkles in Albuquerque

Injectable wrinkle treatments are well-known for being used for both cosmetic and medical applications. In particular, BOTOX® is made from a versatile muscle-relaxing substance known botulinum toxin. Albuquerque’s Western Dermatology Consultants can tell you more about how this ingredient works, along with how it affects your nerves and muscles, how you can trust its application at the hands of an experienced injector, and what to expect in the days after a treatment session.

What Does the Main Active Ingredient in BOTOX® Do?

Dynamic wrinkles, also known as expression wrinkles, typically form on areas of the face where there is a lot of movement. The constantrepetitive facial movements involved in facial expressions or other activities—such as smoking, drinking from a straw, or applying makeup—can cause these wrinkles to form. The lines appear when the underlying tissue moves during facial expressions and disappear(in theory, at least) when the face relaxes.

Clostridium botulinum toxin type A is a type of neurotoxin produced by a specific type of bacterium known as Clostridium botulinum.Treatments made with a purified form of this chemical target specific muscles, relaxing the tissue so it can’t contract and pull on the skin above. Small, weak doses of this substance are used to improve the appearance of facial wrinkles or address other cosmetic concerns.

When injected with care, the active ingredient blocks the proper reception of nerve signals that make muscles contract. More specifically, it inhibits the release of acetylcholine, which is one of the main neurotransmitters in the body that activates muscles. This leads to muscle relaxation—and as the targeted muscles relax, the unwanted wrinkles look less prominent.

BOTOX® injections are very shallow. The medication is injected directly below the surface of the skin and into the muscle, where the botulinum toxin-based product begins working. Though it can take several days for the results to develop, the outcome lasts for three to four months on average.

Which Cosmetic Procedures Complement Botulinum Toxin?

Have you been looking up “BOTOX® near me” and “BOTOX® cost?” Our Western Dermatology Consultants team can provide further advice about botulinum toxin treatments like BOTOX®. We also offer other botulinum toxin injections, such as Daxxify and XEOMIN®. There are also other types of aesthetic procedures like Juvederm® that can complement treatments like BOTOX®. Unlike botulinum toxin injections, facial fillers add fullness when they are injected, reshaping areas of the face, improving the balance and definition, or reducing wrinkles. Chemical peels, microneedling, and dermaplaning also enhance the appearance of the skin in other ways.
