Dysport®

Our Albuquerque, NM, Providers Can Correct Frown Lines, Yet Preserve Natural Expression

Prescription Dysport® at Albuquerque's Western Dermatology Consultants is an injectable treatment used to temporarily improve the look of your moderate to severe frown lines without changing the look of your whole face. The untreated facial muscles still work normally, allowing you to freely show facial expressions, such as smiling, in untreated areas.

We offer free consultations for Dysport® at our Albuquerque practice. To schedule time with a member of our team, contact the Spa online or by phone at 505-855-9267.

What is Dysport®?

dysport

Like BOTOX®, Dysport® is an injectable neuromodulator treatment made by Galderma. It is FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe glabellar lines - these are the vertical lines that form between the eyebrows when we frown and are sometimes referred to as the "angry 11s" or "devil horns". Glabella are "dynamic" wrinkles formed due to muscle contractions that make skin bunch up.

Neuromodulators such as the botulinum toxin protein (the active ingredient used in Dysport®) work by blocking the signals for muscles to contract from our body's neurotransmitter, acetylcholine (ACh). When the muscles do not respond to these signals, they do not contract, and the skin on top of them stays smooth and unwrinkled.

Besides treating dynamic wrinkles, Dysport® may be used for other aesthetic and therapeutic improvements, such as for chin dimpling or excessive sweating. Our board-certified dermatologists can advise you on which treatments may best benefit you.

What is a Dysport Treatment Session Like?

Depending on the extent and number of aesthetic concerns being addressed, a Dysport® treatment session can be completed in as quickly as 10 minutes. Many of our patients visit us for their treatments during their lunch break.

Once Dysport® is administered, it may take a day or two to begin experiencing results. For first-time clients, we occasionally ask them to come in for a quick touch-up appointment about a week after the first one to refine results.

Side effects are generally limited to injection-related swelling, bruising, or tenderness. These are typically mild to moderate and fade away within a few days after treatment.

Results can last between three to six months, depending on how quickly your body naturally processes the neuromodulator. Our patients often choose to repeat the treatments every few months to maintain their results. Repeat treatments are safe and effective.

Clinically Proven Results with One Dysport® Treatment

In three clinical studies of people whose frown lines were rated for "moderate" or "severe" by a doctor before their treatment with Dysport®, 30 days after treatment, the majority (88 percent, 85 percent, and 86 percent in each of the three studies) had their frown lines rated by a doctor as "mild" or "moderate" at a maximum frown. For example, a patient could improve from "severe" to "moderate" or from "moderate" to "mild."
