Age/Sun Spots
Age spots are small brown
macules or yellowish-brownish
pigmented areas on the skin, most
commonly caused by repeated
exposure to the sun or weather.
They are associated with older
skin and most often make their
appearance after the age of 40.
They occur most commonly on
backs of the hands, on the
forearms, shoulder, face, and
forehead.
While not a health concern they
may affect appearance. Bleaching
creams and lotions may help fade
these areas.
The occurrence of age spots can
be reduced or prevented by
avoiding over exposure to the
sun and by using sun screen when
in the sun in the younger years.
